Music has always been a lifeline for me, helping me navigate life's challenges. Back in high school, my Walkman became my refuge. I'd slip on my headphones, immerse myself in worship music and Christian artists, and let the melodies drown out the sound of the bullying I endured because of my faith.
When everything began unravelling last year, and I embarked on my journey of processing, I created a Spotify playlist called "Fear No More." That playlist became a lifeline, helping me navigate some of the darkest moments.
I’m pretty sure I’ve singlehandedly boosted the artists' earnings with how many times I’ve played those tracks on repeat—and it still finds its way back into my rotation regularly.
Having come through so much and penned countless stories, creating songs that reflect the spiritual abuse and advocacy journey has always been a future dream. I used to be a musician, a music teacher, and a composer, but I had shut that part of my life away (you can read more about that here).
The Ostinato
In music, an ostinato (Italian: [ostiˈnaːto]; derived from Italian word for stubborn, compare English obstinate) is a motif or phrase that persistently repeats in the same musical voice, frequently i…
Like many aspects of my artistic journey, I am now exploring AI's technological advancements. While the possibilities can be daunting, the tech also presents an unprecedented realm of possibilities, and I’m ready to embrace them. People often say that AI lacks soul, but I’ve found that when you infuse it with genuine emotion and meaning, the results resonate with our humanity, inspiring, encouraging, challenging, and moving others.
The next phase of this processing journey focuses on producing songs that spring from our stories, memories, and poems. It’s about recasting our writing into another form of art that resonates in a new and impactful way.
I didn’t play the keys (those fingers are still rusty), we didn’t sing the songs (yet). But these songs have come to life through direction and tech advances, unfolding our stories in ways we never imagined.
I invite you to join me on this musical adventure as I release these songs. I’ll be sharing my favourites, hoping they serve as a healing balm for all around the world who have also experienced spiritual abuse. Remember, we are not alone—our story echoes time and again in churches and organisations everywhere.
Songs can also be streamed on Youtube Music, iTunes Amazon Music, Apple Music and other major platforms
Blind Lion
This song is a voice for the victims—for those woven into our story and for those with stories of their own. Some of their lives intersect with ours in unexpected ways, but the cry remains the same for all: End the silence. It’s a call to speak truth to power. Church leaders must stop shielding themselves and the predators and, instead, fiercely protect and care for the flock.
The Blind Lion
Church leaders who shield predators are complicit in the profound trauma inflicted on victims, their inaction a hurricane that can be even more devastating to a survivor’s life than the abuse itself.
